8th Grade - Incoming Freshmen - Parent Information

Dear 8th Grade Students and Parent/Guardians,

Members of the high school administrative team and counseling staff are looking forward to working with you as you plan for your transition to Mt. Ararat High School.  The excitement about next year is growing, especially with the opening of the new school building.  This letter provides you with a list of events planned to support 8th graders and their parents/guardians learning about the high school.  Please mark your calendar for the following events:

  • March 5th or March 16th - 8th Grade Parent Information Night - 6:00pm in the Commons at MTA (same presentation both nights - students are welcome to attend with parents)

  • March 9th - MTA Principal and Counselors meet with 8th Grade Students during the school day to present information and begin course registration process.

  • March 10, 11, and 12 - Step Across Days - 8th Grade Classes are scheduled to visit the high school for transition activities with Counselors and Student Leaders

  • May 5th - Additional 8th Grade Parent Information Night (if needed) 6:00pm in the Commons at MTA

  • May 27th - Step Up Day - 8th Grade Students spend the day at the high school following their draft schedule for the coming year with high school teachers (Grades 8 - 11 participate in the Step Up Day)

  • August (Date TBD - typically a morning event) - Student and Parents are invited to attend an orientation event organized by our National Honor Society student leaders.

High school counselors are eager to get to know eighth grade students and look forward to interacting with them the next few months discussing high school programs and services, facilitating the course registration process, reviewing diploma requirements and addressing general questions.  As noted on the list of events, high school counselors will visit 8th grade classes on March 9th.  Students, please think about questions you may want to ask counselors when they visit you.  Prior to the visit, I encourage you to take a look at the high school website to review our Program of Studies, read about the courses offered at the high school, review diploma requirements, and consider extra-curricular activities that are of interest to you.  Our school handbook, which is also available on our website, is a good resource for students and families.

Your children have a lot to look forward to as they enter high school.  I know with change there can be anxiety, that is natural.  Please know that if you have questions or concerns, you are welcome to reach out to me or one of the counselors at either the high school or middle school.  Our goal is to support students and families as you plan for your transition to the high school.  Hope you can plan to attend the scheduled transition events.

Respectfully,

Donna F. Brunette, Principal
